The X-Men in the Victorian Era? This is in any case what seems to announce in part The Nevers, the new HBO series which is unveiled now with a teaser and whose first 6 episodes should arrive in April on HBO Max and OCS in France.

The creation of Joss Whedon, The Nevers takes place during the last years of the reign of Victoria where London sees the emergence of what is called the “Touched”, that is to say, people - mainly women - who suddenly manifest abnormal capacities, some quite charming and some terrifying.

Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor. Together, they bring their support to this new class of marginalized people and confront all the groups and forces that are on the road.

Note that if these six episodes are under the leadership of Joss Whedon, the latter has since left the series and the continuation of this first season which will arrive later is now done under the supervision of the screenwriter Philippa Goslett who has been chosen as the new showrunner.

The Nevers stars Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, Tom Riley, Ann Skelly, James Norton, Ben Chaplin, Pip Torrens, Nick Frost, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, and Rochelle Neil.
