The full trailer for the Victorian era superhero series The Nevers, airing on HBO and OCS in France, reveals intrigue, plots, persecution, and plenty of action.
The streaming series premieres on April 12 on OCS and stars Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Pip Torrens, and Nick Frost. Created by Joss Whedon, the showrunner of the first half of Season 1 before leaving The Nevers due to exhaustion, the series follows a group of women in Victorian-era England who mysteriously acquire special abilities.
Called “the affected”, these women find themselves ostracized from society because of their differences, but their fate seems to be directly linked to the fate of the world. Most of the plot details have been kept under wraps to spark interest in the series, and the first trailer for The Nevers showcased the setting and powers of the characters without revealing the full extent of what they’re doing. are faced.
HBO has released a full trailer that better shows where each character fits in the show and how high the stakes are. The trailer reveals that the “Affected” is trying to prevent a catastrophe that threatens the future of the world. They also have to face the evil Lord Massen of Torrens, who sees them and their powers as an insult to God. Frost’s Declan Orrun is also an enemy, but it seems money is his motivation. There’s plenty of action and humor too, with the gory and surprisingly violent bestseller-like images from previous Whedon TV series, like Buffy and Firefly, featuring sarcastic female characters. You can watch the trailer below:
There is no doubt that this is not a typical English drama set in the Victorian era, which takes a fantastic approach to the era and enriches it with some spectacular action scenes and a lot of blood and gore. Donnelly, known for starring in Seasons 1-3 of Outlander, shines as Amalia True, the star of the series, whose power seems to be to see the future and get out of all trouble. Detective Frank Mundi, played by Ben Chaplin, is also entitled to some screen time, which makes him a potential ally for Amalia and the rest of the “Touched” throughout the series.
As for Whedon, there is no mention of his involvement in the series, a smart move by HBO given recent allegations about his abusive nature on set, but his signature style is everywhere in this trailer. . It’s unclear exactly what influence new series director Philippa Goslett has been on the history of the series, but she was present during the production of the second half of Season 1, and it will be. interesting to see if there is a change of tone in the following episodes.
The Nevers is broadcasting new episodes every week on HBO Max from April 11 and in France on OCS in US + 24, therefore from April 12, 2021.
