According to the latest noise from the halls, OnePlus could integrate an SoC from MediaTek on its next smartphone, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G?

OnePlus would work with MediaTek for its next smartphone

Rumors have been going around the internet for a few months now about a OnePlus CE 5G - at least if that's its name. One could then wonder if OnePlus would take the plunge and integrate an SoC from MediaTek instead of a Snapdragon from Qualcomm - as it usually does. However, new rumors have come in saying that OnePlus’s future smartphone will be equipped with an SoC from MediaTek.

A OnePlus with MediaTek or Snapdragon?

As of this writing, we still don't know if OnePlus is indeed working on the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, replacing it for the OnePlus Nord N10, and which vendor the Chinese manufacturer will choose. A comment from Digital Chat Station on Weibo media claimed that OnePlus would work on a smartphone equipped with an SoC Dimensity 1200 (MT6893).

OnePlus would work with MediaTek for its next smartphone

The remarks would be consistent with the report held by Android Central last March which specifies that the OnePlus Nord 2 would be equipped with the SoC Dimensity 1200 from MediaTek. However, no comments regarding this smartphone have been disclosed by Digital Chat Station.

Dimensity 1200, a major evolution of the Snapdragon 765G

The SoC Dimensity 1200 is a very important development, especially since it includes eight cores, therefore four Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The Soc is able to manage a refresh rate of up to 168 Hz and notably enables technologies such as Bluetooth 5.2, wifi 6, and 5G.

In the meantime, this choice is not binding on OnePlus either, because it will be able to offer a smartphone cheaper than usual. MediaTek's SoCs are cheaper than Qualcomm's with their Snapdragon. However, we will have to wait to find out whether or not OnePlus passes its savings elsewhere as accessories or other things.
