Sweet Tooth is an upcoming Netflix Original fantasy drama series based on the DC comic of the same name by author Jeff Lemire. The series was originally commissioned by Hulu, but after almost two years in development, it passed into the hands of Netflix.
Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, filmmaker Susan Downey, are two of the series’ four executive producers. Warner Bros. Television, along with DC Entertainment and Team Downey, is the production company behind the original. So it’s all the more surprising that the drama didn’t land on HBO Max. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE SERIES?
Sweet Tooth is set ten years after a global catastrophe that all but destroyed civilization. The story follows Gus, the owner of “Sweet Tooth,” a boy who is part deer and part human. He’s a “hybrid,” a half-animal human, feared and hated by the remnants of mankind.
At the start of Sweet Tooth, Gus sets aside a lifetime of protected existence to venture out into the world and discover all the dangers and the chocolate bars that come with it. Jim Mickle, executive producer, and co-showrunner of the series said they wanted to make a series that offers escape and adventure, where nature reclaims the world and which in many ways feels like a tale of fairies. Sweet Tooth is a unique dystopian tale that is both lush and optimistic.
The series will have 8 episodes for its first season.
