IS NETFLIX GANGLANDS SEASON 1 BASED ON A REAL STORY?
No, Robbery Season 1 is not based on a true story. While the action sequences and brutal deaths give many fans of the genre a thrill, they are not based on actual tragedies as such. The creators built the story using materials from Julien Leclercq’s 2015 movie “The Crew”.
Most of the movie’s cast members are also kept on the TV series, although it is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the acclaimed first movie. The series changes course for a fresh story, with enough gore and guts to keep fans happy. It introduces several new characters while improving the scale of the movie for a more ambitious version of street gangs.
The model for the project is derived from Matteo Garrone’s success in the Italian crime drama “Gomorrah”, which was also made into an acclaimed television series. Netflix gave the series the green light in 2018, and after a few years of development, it was released in 2021.
The story of an LGBTQ + couple entangled in a patriarchal drug-trafficking kingdom bears little or no resemblance to real life, but in dealing with difficult and timely themes, the series gives us momentary hope. She becomes conformist at the end of the day since a woman does not ultimately receive some of the emancipation she deserves until she plays the pregnancy card.
The drama is ambitious, with multiple narrative arcs that collide but never meet, and it loses some of its original intensity as it veers off course into diverse and twisted directions. Therefore, the story may not sound realistic, but it is still a good movie for those who love action.
