Directed by James Wan, creator of The Conjuring universe, Malignant is a new original supernatural horror movie starring Annabelle Wallis as a woman named Madison who, after a confrontation with her abusive husband, begins to have disturbing visions of murdered people. These visions, of course, turn out to be real and that’s when the real horror begins.
The plot of Malignant is much more complex than that, but I won’t spoil the experience for you. Those who know director James Wan, who co-created the Saw and Insidious movies with Leigh Whannell in addition to the Conjuring Universe, know that he seldom passes up a sequel opportunity. WHAT RELEASE DATE FOR MALIGNANT 2?
The movie was released in France 9 days before its US release on September 1. It was originally slated for release on August 14, 2020, but suffered a delay of over a year due to the Covid pandemic. As for the sequel to Malignant, here’s what you need to know.
The directors have not made an official statement on the development of a Malignant 2. However, James Wan said in an interview that he believes the movie has the potential to lead to a franchise. According to him, if he just wanted to make this movie, he always approached directing with a bigger story in mind.
If Malignant is able to repeat the success of these initiatives, a sequel will be a distinct possibility. If the movie were to be renewed in the coming weeks, then the release date of Malignant 2 should be set for mid-2023 in theaters!
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM MALIGNANT?
In Malignant, Sydney helps Madison understand that Gabriel killed her unborn children so that she could live in her brain. Madison manages to take control of her mind and place Gabriel in a mental prison. She knows that the cage will not be able to hold him forever and must therefore prepare for this fate. The sisters not only save themselves but Serena as well.
In Malignant 2, Gabriel could come out and try to regain control of Madison’s body. If he can’t, he’ll find a way out of his body and find another host. Madison will have better control over her powers. It could be revealed that Madison and Gabriel’s biological father are the source of their powers. Kekoa and Sydney will likely be a couple in Malignant 2.
