The heist is available on Netflix! If you want to know all the info about Berlin's death, read on! Berlin, fan-favorite The heist captain, died at the end of Season 2, but thanks to the show's love for flashbacks, he continued to appear regularly throughout the game. the heist of the Bank of Spain. Check out the explanation for the ending of Part 1 of Season 5!

Played by Pedro Alonso, Berlin spent much of the first two seasons of The heist being more of a villain than a protagonist, although it must be admitted that the lines are already blurry in a series where the “heroes” are a bunch of bank robbers.

Showrunner Álex Pina said he was pressured to remove Berlin from the series. Pina refused, however, arguing that the character's psychopathy helped keep things interesting. The decision to kill Berlin likely arose out of the belief that there would only be one heist, and that if the series were not to return, its silver-tongued antihero might as well set off in a blaze of glory.

Berlin is killed in the last episode of season 2. Throughout the crime, Berlin appears to view his fellow robbers and hostages as second-class citizens. As a result, he developed antagonistic relationships with several people at the Mint, including Nairobi. Fiercely independent, compassionate, and endowed with natural leadership qualities, Nairobi overthrows Berlin at one point in the heist but regains control thereafter.

Berlin also befriends one of the hostages, Ariadna Cascales. A Mint employee Ariadna is terrified after seeing the other hostages being intimidated by thieves. She then approaches Berlin and has sex with him for her own safety. They then have several such encounters, which Ariadna describes as rape in frank conversation with Stockholm.

And given the power imbalance between the two of them, that's a valid claim. It's also revealed that Berlin wants to marry Ariadna, but she despises him and relies on him to be alive. She also hopes to get all of her money after her death.

In one of the last confrontations between Nairobi and Berlin, the former reveals the truth about Ariadna to him. After the team escaped through the tunnel, Berlin stayed behind with Ariadna and began shooting at the police. The professor and Berlin are in fact half-brothers through their mother. When the professor realizes that Berlin has stayed behind him, he begs his brother to leave. But Berlin refuses and orders Helsinki to blow up the tunnel.

When the former Serbian mercenary reluctantly executes himself, Berlin confronts the police alone and is killed. At the start of the series, audiences learn that Berlin has been diagnosed with Helmer's muscular dystrophy and has only a few months left to live. This fact, along with what is revealed in Season 3, gives context to his actions before his death. He considers himself an artist, and the Heist of the Mint was his masterpiece. His death is his last act of rebellion against the system.
