Luca’s boss, Bianchi, ran a political campaign that called him the future of the country. Quite symbolic, given that Bianchi ran a network of human trafficking and forced labor that relegated the country to the Dark Ages. Nonetheless, Bianchi ordered Luca to leave the dump and participate in the daily operations of the campaign.
Mateus asked Luca if he was going to release his friends too. Luca revealed that he was never going to let them go, but that he liked Mateus. He, therefore, proposed to Mateus to go with him. On the way to the scrapyard, Mateus met Luca’s mother and her family. They looked happy, and their happiness changed Mateus’s heart. He wanted to have the same smile on his mother’s face one day. When they returned to the scrapyard, Mateus’s best friend Samuel tried to escape. Mateus caught him and brought him back to the prison.
While grabbing Samuel, Mateus became extremely aggressive and grabbed Samuel’s neck. He was afraid that if Samuel fled, his ambitions to provide luxury for his mother would be shattered for good. Mateus was then told by Luca that it was either him or them. Mateus must make a difficult decision. He needed to decide between a friend and his future.
Mateus made his decision and summoned Batista to see Samuel. He threatened Samuel’s mother and sent her a photo. Samuel sees his mother’s photo and looks at the transformed Mateus. He knows his friend has been eaten up by greed.
The next morning Samuel burned Mateus’ arm with a cigarette. Quickly, Mateus and Luca left the scrapyard, and Rodiney took over. Mateus sat in the car and saw the burnt mark on his arm. He knew he had burnt all the bonds and friendships he once had. From now on, Mateus was a completely different man.
