This Is Us season 6 episode 11 on Tuesday night could be the most painful of the entire series. After all, it includes a scene that we’ve been anticipating for a long time.
We already know that Kate and Toby are going to get divorced before the show ends. That has been widely publicized for quite some time. The events surrounding the smoker incident, however, remain a little mysterious. What happens to cause these characters to realize that a split is in their best interests, and how does Jack get that scar?
Of course, you’ll have to wait until the premiere of “Saturday in the Park” to learn all the details. Nonetheless, Chrissy Metz has provided a new quote to help set the tone! Here’s what she said in an interview with People Magazine:
“To be honest, I’m not sure the Pearsons can throw a normal party.” With the parties, S— always seems to hit the fan. S— hits the fan when three or more Pearsons get together… I believe it’s because a lot is going on beneath the surface, such as resentments and other issues. There’s a specific incident that occurs between Kate, Toby, and Jack that solidifies their decision to not proceed.”
The keyword here, we believe, is “solidifies.” Even before the smoker incident, Kate and Toby may have been thinking about this internally. This, however, is what makes them realize that it is the best option for them. It could be a turning point, but we hope it’s one where we can relate to both of them and understand their perspectives. To understand their decision, we don’t need to see one of them as an outright villain.
