IS PURPLE HEARTS INSPIRATION DERIVED FROM A TRUE STORY?
Purple Hearts is not based on true events. It is based on Tess Wakefield’s book of the same name. Wakefield’s first book for adults was released in 2017. While she did not base the story on a real person or event, she did incorporate some real-life struggles that her audience could easily relate to.
Cassie is of Puerto Rican descent in the novel. Wakefield spoke with the Puerto Rican community to learn more about their culture and how to properly portray this side of her.
