We were aware going into tonight’s episode of Sanditon that it would be the final one. We were prepared to cry because of that. Perhaps there would also be some happy tears mixed in with the sad ones, but tears are tears.
There is no doubt that the journey to this point has been hazardous. Here, we are discussing a program that was once canceled. It took a great deal of effort to bring it back, and witnessing how tenaciously fans fought for that was nothing short of motivational.
We anticipated a satisfying conclusion from the beginning, if not for the overall story, then at the very least for Charlotte Heywood.
Because of the extensive documentation of her relationship with Colbourne, we know going into the finale that she had many things she wanted to discuss with him.
(Of course, we are also aware of how challenging series finales can be; it is virtually impossible to please everyone, and for some, attempting to do so is viewed as a fool’s errand.)
So what actually transpired in the climax? Let’s just say that when it comes to Charlotte and Colbourne, we did receive some fantastic news — not only did they end up together, but we also had a wedding!
This was a joyous way to wrap up the show and served as a reminder that the creators ultimately wanted us to be content.
Did everything move quickly in the conclusion?
You could argue that it occasionally moved a bit too quickly, but the story needed to cover a lot of ground quickly.
The escape, the shores, and of course the characters will be missed. Hopefully, Masterpiece will continue to produce programming like this for many years to come.
